Cork is a naturally fire retardant material that will not release incandescent particles nor propagate flames. It slows or stops the spread of fire or can reduce its intensity. This is accomplished by chemical reactions that reduce the flammability of fuels or delay their combustion. Thermal CorkShield™ has a Class A Flame Spread Rating according to ASTM E84-20 and CAN/ULC S102-10.

Our product has elastic properties which means that it can expand and contract depending on the weather. Thermal CorkShield is flexible and highly resistant to chipping or cracking. It has the capacity to recover the initial volume after experiencing deformation, offering protection and resistance to wear and tear.

Vipeq’s Thermal CorkShield™ is a natural thermal barrier that greatly reduces heat or cold from transferring through it.  One of the properties of cork as a raw material is that it will never go below 0° C nor above 30° C. This combined with the complete envelope created with Vipeq’s polymer resin and the virtually un-burstable air pockets that make up cork’s insulative cell structure allow it to continue to provide a thermal break no matter the weather. Thermal CorkShield is rated with a K-value of 0.068 W/mK.

Thermal CorkShield™ is extremely resistant to harsh conditions like under UV rays, only fading 1% – 2% annually. Cork has the ability to recover initial volume after exposure to pressure or impact, staying in place and not compromising properties.

Suberin, a naturally occurring macromolecule made of fatty acids present in cork, has the ability to stop mold or microorganisms in their tracks. Laboratory test show 0(zero) mold or mildew growth on our product, ensuring a safe and long lasting job site solution.

Our product allows for minimal salt penetration, protecting from degeneration in unfavorable environments.

Thermal CorkShield™ does not shed its fibers. It is non-VOC and non-toxic.


Vipeq Sustainable

Eco-friendly and Sustainable

Cork comes from the bark of the cork tree, Quercus suber; and Vipeq sources the highest quality cork from sustainable plantations in Portugal.
The cork bark is (only partially) removed by hand every 8-10 years. Large amounts of oxygen is released by the tree into the environment during this time, while the tree will last for hundreds of years, continuing to grow new bark for harvest.
